In New Orleans East there is a Six Flags that was abandoned after Katrina.  Six Flags took what was usable and left everything else to just basically rot.  This makes for some amazing images.  I love this place.  You can’t help but to feel like a kid again.

soz:

Went to the Abandoned Six Flags New Orleans theme park yesterday.. walking around felt kind of like exploring a post-apocalyptic world (which I guess, in a sense, I was).. I would go there again at night to drink, maybe.. This place was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina and apparently the Six Flags company just up and left and never came back, so nobody’s made any moves to clean up or clear the park out since then, and it’s open to photographers/taggers/skaters/bums/what-have-you. I think it’s mostly rad, and a little bit sad. We found a Polaroid on the ground of a Six Flags worker from ‘05, in mint condition, as well as a binder full of Six Flags’ proposed new marketing strategy & partnership with Sherwin Williams. So strange to look at relics from a time long, long gone..

Remains Of WWII Plane Found In Sahara Desert

A World War II plane a British pilot crashed in the Saharan Desert has been found frozen in time 70 years later. The Kittyhawk P-40 is an aviation time capsule that has remained unseen and untouched since it crash-landed in June 1942. It is thought the pilot, believed to have been Flight Sergeant Dennis Copping (24), survived the crash and initially used his parachute for shelter. He may have then made a desperate and ultimately futile attempt to reach civilisation — some 200 miles away — by walking out into the desert. Now a search is to begin for the airman’s remains — as aviation experts and historians begin an operation to recover and display the P-40 aircraft in his memory. The chance find was made by an oil worker exploring a remote region of the Western Desert in Egypt. It is more than 200 miles from the nearest town in a vast expanse of largely featureless terrain.

Dodge City

Today, Colin Hesterly gives us a view of the Old West in Dodge City, Kansas. His Words:

Dodge City, Kansas - 1872. Longhorn cattle center of the world and wide-open Babylon of the American frontier - packed with settlers, thieves and gunmen.”
